Background for Noise Level

I have purchased these units for friends and spouse several times and just purchased another here. I am a retired, licensed engineer in NC formerly doing electronics design having run some number of products through CE (European) certification. ANSI (US) usually accepts Euro standards and participates there. This said, I am not aware of any real standards for measuring noise levels in consumer products or especially oxygen systems. Therefore, the dB spec may not mean much. The USA Philips web site lists "Sound Level" as 40dB typical with no maximum. However, 40dB is not a sound level specification. 48dB SPL (sound power level where 0 is 20 microPascals as I recall and a Pascal is one Newton per Meter of pressure as I recall...Newton is about 1/5th of a pound) maximum at 3 meters center in acoustic dead room at 5L/min. o dB SPL is about threshold of hearing (young person). BUT there is no such spec listed. Ergo, there is no specification.

There are European workplace standards some of which are followed here. Sorry, the old 'Imperial' units like pound etc. have no real definition any more, just recommended conversion factors which you may violate without consequence. There are very few US driven standards any more and no commercial purpose in following them if they existed.

New Everflow

This concentrator purchase new, has a decibel noise of. 65+ when running and.guaranteed to be at 45 DB. It works great, but is not as quiet as manual reports it to be. I ran decibel meter on my home floor fan on low speed...45 DB. I put meter on room humidifier on low is 45, med is 50-55 and high is 55-60. Meter works good on all tested. I think. This unit may be factory defective and calling Oxygen Direct tomorrow. We have been using 3 days now. Put on rug as was even louder on hardwood floors.
